A38 and Alveston Hill improvements

Work is underway on improvements along the A38 near Thornbury and at Alveston Hill.
There are overnight road closures along the A38 at Alveston, Rudgeway and Hortham.
In addition to this from now until late Winter 2025 the turning to Alveston Hill from A38 will be closed.
Traffic can still leave Alveston Hill onto the A38 as normal.
The diversion is via Grovesend Road, Midland Way and back to Alveston Hill and vice versa.

A38 flyover

Essential maintenance work on the A38 Flyover will start at the end of May 2025 and is scheduled to be completed in December.
Several major components of the bridge are nearing the end of their design life and the seven-month project will include replacing the bearings and the north deck expansion joint.
These maintenance works are essential to avoid weight restrictions or potential carriageway closures in the future.
In order to replace the bridge deck bearings, there will be some short-term restrictions under the flyover.
Northbound/Southbound slip: the lanes will be reduced to one lane between end of May to August 2025.
There will also to be six overnight closure of the flyover in June, August, September and October.
Unfortunately, it is necessary to fully close the A38, over the flyover, to traffic so essential works to the north expansion joint can take place from July 2025 until August 2025.
Signed diversions will be in place and we apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause.

A4174 improvements

The footway alongside the A4174 between Bristol Road, Hambrook and Coldharbour Lane, Stoke Gifford will be closed in both directions until Winter 2025/26. The diversion for non-motorised users is via Bristol Road and Filton Road.
The 2+ lane on this section will also be closed westbound until Winter 2025 so the work to widen the existing infrastructure can take place. This is to create narrow lanes so work can begin on the new cycle track, which is part of the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements (CRSTS) programme - a £5.7 billion government investment in local transport networks.
The CRSTS scheme forms part of our objectives to give people more transport options and promote more carbon neutral transport links to help reduce the effects of climate change.

Henfield Road drainage works
We have brought in a drainage investigation team to jet the pipes to remove any blockages and use CCTV to help stop flooding at Henfield Road.
A survey has been carried out using images from the cameras to inform us of the next steps needed to resolve any further flooding issues on this route.

Hambrook Lane drainage works
New LED technology has been used to improve the drainage system along Hambrook Lane without needing to dig up the road.
Specialist contractor Glanvilles used the method to cure or harden pipe liners – like a long sock - which then inflate and seal any cracks in the old pipework.
Webbs Wood footbridge

Our StreetCare teams have carried out an emergency closure of Webbs Wood footbridge, Bradley Stoke for safety reasons.
The crew inspected it and after removing the anti-slip sheets that were on top of the bridge, it was discovered that the timber was rotten and not safe to be in use.
We will be looking at possible ways forward over the next few days.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused by this closure.
