Greenprint Live Labs project
South Gloucestershire Council - 13th June 2024
South Gloucestershire Council have started a Greenprint Live Labs initiative that will reduce the council's carbon footprint, encourage wildflowers, help insects to thrive and allow the soil to store more carbon.
South Gloucestershire Council have identified green spaces within the parish where the grass will be cut 4 or 5 times and grass clippings collected and removed from site.
This is a South Gloucestershire Council initiative and not Stoke Gifford Parish Council.
Information from South Gloucestershire Council
If residents are concerned about the length of specific plots of grass, the details can be reported via the following page of the Council’s public website: Report a problem with a public open space | BETA - South Gloucestershire Council (southglos.gov.uk)
The attached FAQ document may be helpful in explaining the background to the Live Labs project.
We also have a project webpage on the public website, here: Energy from grass cuttings | BETA - South Gloucestershire Council (southglos.gov.uk)
There have been numerous social media releases about the project this spring, following a press release in April, and details in the Council’s Residents eNewsletter: Library opening hours to change, new carbon reduction project and more (mailchi.mp)
Council maintained grass in South Gloucestershire is subject to a complex combination of levels of service – not just between parishes, but often within individual parishes themselves. For example, some areas are subject to an enhanced service paid for by the parish and provided either by an external contractor or SGC, (typically 8 – 10 cuts), whilst other areas receive just a basic ‘core service’ of 2 cuts per season, or a combination of both. We are in the process of developing maps that can be shared with the public, parishes, and other stakeholders via a simple browser link, that should allow the Live Labs plots to be identified at a glance.
If there are any specific individual plots the residents, members or parish council would like either taken into, or withdrawn from the Live Labs project, we would be happy to discuss further if required.
